Summary

This is a great ride in a stunning location. We will meet at the Mangatepopo Camp on Thursday afternoon from 1pm. This will be an extended excursion with a 3 night stop over on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with a Breakfast (Sat & Sun) and Dinner (Fri & Sat), beds and great riding included. We are booked in at the Mangatepopo Camp which will include accommodation and evening food for the weekend.

 

This event, previously known as "42 Traverse" or "National Park", has been renamed to "Dave McKennie Memorial Ride" in a unanimous vote by club members, in memory of Dave McKennie who sadly passed away at this event in 2020.

 

B Grade ride, all quads welcome with 4WD and winches recommended (check the weather if you have 2-wheel drive). Our annual ride highlight with access to new and old tracks in a stunning location with amazing riding.

This year we will be undertaking another working bee and navigating the northern AND southern end of the 42nd with 4 exploratory and/or challenging rides with lots of healthy fun on the way.

Some challenging tracks with river crossings and amazing scenery.

RIDE SCHEDULE (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY)

We will meet at the Mangatepopo Camp on Wednesday Afternoon from 1pm.

  • 1st Day – Arrive at camp (MAXIMUM of 9 places). Please RSVP ASAP. You can campervan/caravan next to the camp. Accommodation in the holiday house.
  • 2nd Day – Working Bee (accommodation for MAXIMUM of 9 places). Please RSVP. We will be opening up tracks and repairing together a couple of bridges on the day. Accommodation in the holiday house
  • 3rd Day - Full accommodation available – Full day riding (Start at 08:30am)
  • 4th November – Full accommodation available – Full day riding (Start at 8.30am)

Please note: We shall be conducting a full day ride on Friday which may depart from either Owhango or the Camp depending on previous ride feedback. I will update you further closer to the date.

This is inclusive of food, riding and accommodation for the weekend. Wow I hear you say. Great value for a big extended trip and helpful hosts – yes, I know.

This ride will take us into the National Park on up to 4 rides:

In advance of our upcoming ride in the National Park, I wanted to provide a brief run through of activities at the ride so everyone can make their respective plans.

Firstly, please can you formally RSVP if you have not already. If I do not know you are coming, I will not be able to cater for you - thank you.

  • Thursday Afternoon - riders can arrive and unload and setup from 1300, accommodation provided but no catering.
  • Thursday Night - Dinner to be had at Schnapps Bar in National Park. 1830
  • Friday Morning - riders looking to depart 9.30am. at. This may be our Northern Track Explorer Ride. Start
  • Friday evening - preparation of kai for dinner at approximately 1830 for dinner serving at approximately 1900. Dinner and a beverage by the fire.
  • Saturday morning, breakfast then starting ride at 0845 promptly. Full day ride. Bring your own lunch.
  • Saturday evening, return for preparation of dinner and serving at 1930.
  • Sunday morning, breakfast then starting ride at 0845 promptly. Half/Full day ride. Bring your own lunch.
  • Sunday afternoon - Return and pack up camp at 1600.

What is Mangatepopo Camp?

Mangatepopo Camp is an amazing facility from which you, your family or larger group can experience the beauty of New Zealand's pristine environment.

This ride is graded B, preferably for 4WD quads and confident if not "ball'sy" 2WD quads (although you may be towed).
Experience tells us clean radiators will significantly extend your riding capability.

The club looks forward to seeing you there.
